Prayer Concerns for July & August
Each month we have prayer concerns listed. Some will be of immediate concern locally and others of the wider world around us. It is hoped you will include them in your personal devotions.
Please consider the following in your personal devotions:
Worldwide issues
- The situation in Zimbabwe.
- The families and loved ones of the latest service personnel to lose their lives in Afghanistan; all our armed forces wherever they are serving.
- Those affected by the sinking of the passenger ferry in the Philippines.
National issues:
- July 6th – The Ordination and Induction of Helen Mee as Locum Minister in Livingston; pray for God’s Blessing on Helen’s ministry.
- July 13th – Sea Sunday
- Those who find themselves in financial difficulties due to rising food and fuel costs.
Local issues
- 8 year old Brandon from Crossgates, who had a stroke in February; pray that he will continue to make progress.
- Vikki (14) from Kelty who underwent a heart transplant in April and is now well on the way to recovery; pray for those who have to make a decision regarding the donation of their loved ones’ organs; thank God for the skill of doctors and nursing staff.
- Ourselves; pray that the holiday period will be a time when we can be renewed and refreshed so that we can face the challenges ahead, whether we are able to get away, or find ourselves staying at home.
As in Christ, you came in to the world
To bring light and peace,
kissing the earth with love, with hope, with life,
so we, loving God, would be messengers of light
bringing warmth where the world is cold,
light where the world is dark,
and joy where the world is sad.
In Christ’s name
Amen

Vangel are Ian Walker & Jimmy Scott.
Ian Walker and Jimmy Scott make an intriguing combinatlon! With over 80years of music between them, neither can be described as "new kids on the block"!
Ian was inspired by the music of the Glasgow folk scene in the 1960's and, since then, has developed a reputation as a songwriter and performer. He has nine albums recorded and two songbooks published.
His songs have been widely sung and recorded by other artists including Alastair McDonald and The McCalmans. He has also worked, at different times, with Glasgow singer/songwriter Ian Bruce and with the Lanarkshire based traditional band Setanta. Recently lan has been working with The New Makars Trust and Local Councils helping primary school children and groups of older people write songs about their lives and communities.
Jimmy has been singing and playing his own brand of country Gospel music since the 1960's in a variety of line-ups but principally with his family group, led by his father, Adam Scott. They travelled extensively throughout the UK and abroad playing in prisons, mission halls and churches. From an early age, music played an integral part in family life originally with the old Gospel hymns, but later melding with the songs of The Carter Family, Hank Williams, Jim Reeves and Johnny Cash amongst others. Indeed, during one prison concert. Jimmy's own remarkable singing voice reminded one inmate of the legendary country music singer, Don Williams.
In addition to their own solo work, Ian Walker and Jimmy Scott have been singing as a duo since 1994 and have performed their own particular blend of old time music and new songs throughout the UK in a wide variety venues.
The duo produced an album of their music in December 1998 called "Brand New" and released a further two albums, "Singing For The Hour" and "Only Remembered" during 2003 together with a release, on one CD, of Ian Walker's Fellside albums "Plying High" and "Shadows In Time".
In 2005 Ian published a book/CD collection of songs written with children in Primary Schools in Scotland called, "Washdays".
In 2005, Jimmy released his own solo album called "Bread Upon The Water" and, as a consequence. Jimmy was invited to support "The International Ambassador Of Country Music" George Hamilton IV on his UK Tours in 2005 and 2006 and at the Americana Festival, Newark, England.

Fair Trade
Thanks to all who purchase Traidcraft goods for your continued support. To any new members or worshippers with us; the Traidcraft stall will usually be in the hall on the first or second Sunday of every other month. If you need anything between the stall openings, Janice will be pleased to take your order. The next Traidcraft stall will be held after the service on Sunday 17th August.
Millions of families in developing countries don’t get a fair share of the wealth created by their own skill and effort and the resources of their land. This is largely because of the way international trade is controlled by the rich countries. It’s a system which is both unjust and a major cause of continuing poverty. Through Fair Trading we can work towards changing this injustice, by creating opportunities for the poor in the ‘third world’ to work their way to a better quality of life. Read the labels, seek out the Traidcraft products in the supermarkets and if you cannot find any - ASK, put pressure on the supermarkets to trade fairly. YOU can make a difference - even through one jar of coffee!
